I am an integrative counsellor who has been working with Heart and Mind for 7 years. I am committed to walking alongside my clients at whatever stage they are at on their life journey, to reflect on and process their past, engage with present feelings and realities, and step into their future with new personal insight and positive coping strategies.
As well as working as a part-time as a therapist, I also have worked in government and currently the charity sector as an advisor on inclusion, gender and psychosocial support in emergency and post-conflict contexts. I have a particular interest in diversity and the impact that a range of identities can have on lived experience – especially gender, disability, race and migration status. I understand the toll that can come from challenging and demanding work contexts and often work with clients to unpack the impact of work stressors to achieve more satisfaction and balance in all areas of life.
Faith is an important factor, in my experience, that many clients would like to address in the context of counselling. I offer a safe and respectful space to engage on spiritual or existential matters, such as purpose, meaning, desire, as well as life and death.
Approaches Used
I like to use a range of approaches with my clients as everyone is unique with different reasons for seeking therapy. Many clients come to therapy for the first time and would like to see what is on offer. My toolbox includes cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy as well as psychodynamic approaches that help to identify how the past is informing the present. I will use a mix of these approaches alongside person centred therapy as I believe that the best outcomes in therapy come from having a therapist who feels safe, empathetic, non-judgemental and on your side.
Training and Experience
I am a registered member of the BACP and ACC, working within their ethical frameworks and protocol. I have a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Distinction). I am a guest tutor on the Heart and Mind Diploma Course on the topic of working with clients with mild to moderate learning disabilities. I also hold a master’s degree in psychology (MA Hons) and in International Development Studies (MSc).
